Uranus's Story
In Greek mythology, Uranus (pronounced YOO-rə-nəs) is one of the primordial deities, often referred to as the personification of the sky.
Uranus is the son of Gaia, the Earth goddess, and he is also her husband. Together, they parented the Titans, Cyclopes, and Hecatoncheires (hundred-handed giants), among other beings. Uranus and Gaia were among the first beings to emerge from Chaos, the primeval void at the beginning of creation.
They represented the fundamental forces of the universe—Uranus as the sky and Gaia as the earth. According to myth, Uranus and Gaia had a tumultuous relationship. Uranus kept Gaia constantly pregnant, and she gave birth to numerous children, including the Titans and other monstrous beings. However, Uranus was displeased with some of his offspring, particularly the Hecatoncheires and Cyclopes, who were monstrous in appearance.
